Overview: Airport administrator's plan and manage the operations of airport facilities. They negotiate with airlines for the leasing of passenger ticketing space, baggage handling, hangars, estimate operations costs, manage budgets and investigate airport accidents.
Duties: Airport administrators plan new designs for airport facilities, regulations and procedures, aircraft landing and take-off patterns. They estimate needs for expansion of building and hangars.

They negotiate with airlines for providing them with passenger ticketing, baggage handling and hangar space at an airport. They decide upon lease prices for these facilities.

They formulate emergency procedures to use in the event of aircraft accidents, airport fires and other emergencies. Confer with FAA to assure compliance with Federal regulations.

Airport administrators determine the revenue of airport operations by analyzing operating costs and prices charged to airlines for leasing of facilities. They change leasing prices to achieve target profits.

Job Outlook: Employment in this field is projected to grow 2% to 4% from 2018 to 2028, which is slightly slower than the average projected growth for all occupations.
Salary Range (National Average): $40,000 to $45,000
Education Level: Typically, a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college (some are 5 years) is required to be considered for this occupation.
Additional Training/Education: A bachelor's or a master's degree in business management with a background in transportation provides good preparation for a career in airline and airport administration. Courses in operations management, statistics and computer applications are important. Some colleges and universities offer specialized training for careers in aviation. FAA certification is required for duties associated with management and scheduling of aircraft.
