Overview: Radio and TV station administrators direct the activities of radio or TV stations. They supervise personnel involved in engineering, program, and sale of time to advertisers for commercials. They negotiate with motion picture companies to lease movies and assure federal regulations are met.
Duties: Develop plans to promote sale of advertising for the station's open time slots. They negotiate with advertising agencies that buy time to advertise products and services for their clients.

They decide upon the station's program content in order to achieve a balance of drama, music, news, etc. Select and hire key staff members such as program director, commentators, etc.

They design and conduct surveys of station listeners to identify their preferences and satisfaction with the station's programs. They decide what changes are needed to satisfy listeners.

Determine what kinds of new programs, announcers, or guests are needed to enlarge the station's listening audience. They identify new organizations that might buy the station's advertising time.

Degree(s): A.A.S. Management: Marketing Concentration 
A.S. Theatre: Concentrations in Acting or Technical Theatre 
A.S. Business Administration (Accounting and Marketing) 
Job Outlook: Employment in this field is projected to grow 9% to 13% from 2018 to 2028, which is faster than the average projected growth for all occupations.
Salary Range (National Average): $28,000 to $32,000
Education Level: Typically, a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college (some are 5 years) is required to be considered for this occupation.
Additional Training/Education: The position of station administrator is not typically an entry position for new graduates; you usually start your career in assistant positions in writing, administrative or technical work. A liberal arts bachelor's degree in communications is an ideal educational background for an entry position. Courses in broadcasting journalism, advertising, public relations, mass communications, communications media, telecommunications and business administration will strengthen your credentials.
