Computer Network Architects
Overview: | Design and implement computer and information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other data communications networks. Perform network modeling, analysis, and planning. May also design network and computer security measures. May research and recommend network and data communications hardware and software. |

Coordinate installation of new equipment. Coordinate network operations, maintenance, repairs, or upgrades. |

Additional Training/Education: | Most employers require completion of either a technical institute certificate program that takes 18 to 20 months or a 2-year college associate degree program. Coursework includes computer hardware and software, networking operations, network wiring and electronics, local area networks (LAN's) and wide area networks (WAN's). |
