Overview:	Design and implement computer and information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other data communications networks. Perform network modeling, analysis, and planning. May also design network and computer security measures. May research and recommend network and data communications hardware and software.

Coordinate installation of new equipment. Coordinate network operations, maintenance, repairs, or upgrades.

Salary Range (National Average):	$30,000 to $35,000
Education Level:	Training for this occupation generally requires a High School Degree, plus additional coursework in a vocational or technical school. In some cases, employers may require an Associate Degree.
Additional Training/Education:	Most employers require completion of either a technical institute certificate program that takes 18 to 20 months or a 2-year college associate degree program. Coursework includes computer hardware and software, networking operations, network wiring and electronics, local area networks (LAN's) and wide area networks (WAN's).
Recommended Skills:	Weighing out the options in a situation or a problem and logically choosing the best course of action. Analyzing requirements for a new product or service and creating a design to satisfy those needs. Identifying the most appropriate equipment and tools needed to get a job done. Installing equipment, machines, wiring, etc. according to a set of specifications. Paying attention to what other people are saying, and taking time to understand the points being made. Ability to identify a problem, review related information, develop and evaluate options, and implement a solution. The ability to understand complex written paragraphs, instructions, or reports. Using logic to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Analyzing the symptoms of a problem and deciding what actions should be taken to resolve the problem.
