Overview: Teaches courses in the arts including fine and applied art, such as painting and sculpture, or design and crafts.

Art teachers in colleges teach students the practical skills, theory and history of each the subject. For example an art techer would create learning modules which would include subjects such as painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture and ceramics.

Art teachers in colleges may perform the following tasks: undertake general teaching tasks (set up and/or maintain facilities such as photographic darkrooms, kilns for ceramic work, studios and store areas, order and maintain art resources and materials within the budget allowance, demonstrate the use of a variety of art materials and tools such as oils, watercolours, palettes, brushes, pallette knives, pen, pencil, dyes, clay, fabric, canvas and paper inspire students and assist them to develop their creativity and self-expression through various art forms and media, arrange for exhibitions of student work in and out of school.

Art teachers may specialise in one or more aspects of art in their tertiary studies, e.g. history and appreciation of art, ceramics, drawing, film and video, painting, pottery, printmaking, sculpture and visual communication, as well as studying the elements of design, graphics, product design and environmental studies.

Degree(s): A.A./B.A. QCC/QC Dual/Joint Liberal Arts & Sciences and Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) 
A.S. Art: Concentrations in Art & Design or Art History 
A.S. Theatre: Concentrations in Acting or Technical Theatre 
Job Outlook: Employment in this field is projected to grow 9% to 13% from 2018 to 2028, which is faster than the average projected growth for all occupations.
Education Level: Typically, a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college (some are 5 years) is required to be considered for this occupation.
Additional Training/Education: All states require that teachers be certified for one or several related subjects. All states require a bachelor's degree and completion of an approved teacher training program with a prescribed number of subject credits and supervised practice teaching. Almost all states require teachers to be enrolled in continuing education courses for renewal of the teacher's certificate. Some states require a master's degree.
