The Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) at Queensborough Community College invites you to our 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration, taking place on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 12:00 pm in the Oakland Dining Room.
The theme for this year's celebration: "SAVE OUR HISTORY!"
The celebration will feature catered food, courtesy of Southern Girls Soul Food - a Black-owned restaurant located in Laurelton, Queens. Additional celebration highlights will include a performance of the Black National Anthem as well as presentations by select Black faculty members of the college, an African drum performance, and much more. Food and community building have been at the core of Juneteenth celebrations for decades. As such, it is befitting to host a celebration and invite the entire Queensborough community to join in the festivities of the monumental milestone in American history, and now, federal holiday. The celebration also advances the Strategic Plan's goal to create belonging and sense of community in that sharing a meal "increases social bonding and feelings of wellbeing, and enhances one's sense of contentedness and embedding within the community."
