The Academic Senate Committee on eLearning met on Mar 10, 2022 at 3:16 PM via Zoom (Online)

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 3:16 PM

1. Approve previous meeting minutes

  • February 10 2022 meeting minute was approved by unanimous vote.

2. New 2021 eLearning Committee NewsLetter 

   1). Additional suggestions for the Spring issue.

  • Fei suggested an article about online automatic grading system. Randelle suggested that we should interview faculties who have implemented this system, and compared the learning outcomes of traditional in-person and new on-line grading tools. Susan suggested website links and resources should be provided in the article, making it an introduction of the automatic grading system to all faculty members. 

   2). Article about Tony’s Virtual International Program

  • The due time for Tony’s article is in the early May.



3. Ideas for 2022 Online Pedagogy Series (Brown Bag Workshops) Schedule

   1). Hyflex II Panel - Susan and Randelle will give a talk in this workshop. The topics will cover:

  • While transitioning back to the in-person teaching mode again, how can faculties still incorporate the technologies that were utilized during the pandemic.

  • How to record lectures and use interactive tools to comply with 70% in-person 30% online teaching requirement.

  • Information about Quality Matters rubric and standards (QM). What QM workshops are available, what are the different types of QM certificates that can be earned by faculties as well as other QM related resources.

    2). LibreTexts (Fei Ye) – Fei will deliver a presentation on LibreTexts.


 

4. HyFlex

  • Survey or interview faculty who have taught HyFlex. Committee will wait until after fall semester when more faculties will have actually taught HyFlex courses and gained experience of it.

  • Humberto volunteered to start working on a draft of student survey on their experiences taking a HyFlex course.

 

5. Suggested goals from the Academic Senate Steering Committee

  • Committee agrees that we should be a supporting role on this task. Zivah will reach out to find out more information.
