Ninth Annual Undergraduate Research & Creative Works Day Features Student Projects Across the Academic Disciplines
On Dec. 6, students, faculty and other members of the College community gathered in the Student Union to celebrate the ninth Annual Undergraduate Research & Creative Works (URCW) Day. There were 80 student presentations, 149 students, and 43 faculty mentors who highlighted their work conducted over the past year.
The event opened with remarks given by the Annual Undergraduate Research & Creative Works (URCW) Day Planning Team, Dr. Phyllis Curtis-Tweed, Provost & Vice President of the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA), Dr. Linda Bastone, Dean of Faculty, OAA, Dr. Ruth E Stark, Distinguished Professor, City College of New York, Dr. Ron Nerio, Research Program Director, CUNY Office of Research Undergraduate Research and the High Impact Practice Coordinators.
The occasion was organized by Dr. Sarbani Ghoshal, Assistant Professor, Biological Sciences & Dr. Roumen Vragov, Assistant Professor, Business, Co-chairs of the QCC Research Committee, Dr. Rezan Akpinar, Associate Professor, Health, Physical Education & Dance, Dr. Regina Sullivan, CRSP Director, Associate Professor, Biological Sciences, Dr. Paul Sideris, Associate Professor, Chemistry, Dr. Andrew Bulawa, Associate Professor, Mathematics and Computer Science, Dr Matthew Lau, Associate Professor, English, Professor Jennifer Chabra, Compliance Research Specialist, OAA, Dr. Zhou Zhou, Assistant Professor, Chemistry, and Christina Denny, Program Coordinator, CRSP.

Undergraduate Research & Creative Works (URCW) Day is a result of students collaborating with peers and faculty to develop strong investigative and presentation skills that will go a long way in preparing them to successfully continue their education or enter the workforce.
Posters and panel discussions were presented from twelve departments namely Art and Design, Biological Sciences and Geology, Business, Chemistry, Engineering Technology, Communication, Theatre, & Media Production, English, Health, Physical Education and Dance, History, Mathematics and Computer Science, Nursing and Social Sciences. Three Undergraduate Research Creative Works (URCW) Day panel presentations were held including the student production of “Stupid F##king Bird”: Reflections on the Spring 2024 production of a postmodern adaptation of Chekhov’s, The Seagull.
