Meet the Candidates:

Realreet Kaur

Realreet Kaur

Every candidate must have different and various reasons on why they will be running for the elections. I don’t have any particular reason, or reasons; I am running in the elections to support all of our communities that are students at QCC and represent them at a bigger level. I want to eliminate the fear of a freshman coming into college the first day and losing their way to class. I want QCC to not just be at that one place where it’s located, I want QCC to be represented in the outside world as well. Many people underestimate community colleges, I want QCC to stand out and be a college where everyone would want to apply to, due to how it is involved and the changes I would like to bring with it.

Sedial Mitchell

Sedial Mitchell

The reason I am running for SGA President, is that I have experience, knowledge and the wisdom to guide many through troubling times. I feel QCC needs someone who knows exactly what the needs of a student are, who they are, and things to improve the quality of the lives of QCC. If I am indeed elected as SGA, I plan to reach out to the community of the college and identify the core problems and solve them in the most appropriate way possible, as well as provide the proper guidance through wisdom of my own. I will never ignore a student for any reason. I will be the voice to advocate for any and all students. Once again, no student's voice will ever be ignored and will be taken into serious consideration, whatever the case is. How I will accomplish this, is that any student who has an inquiry can always contact me or set up meeting where I can discuss details about the said inquiry. I will act as an advocate for the entire QCC community - my goal to keeping this word, is to leave no student behind. I will answer accordingly to the most appropriate actions possible.

The reason why people should elect me, is because I have the experience of leadership. I am the director of a current board that operates in the eastern Queens area whereas I organize events in eastern Queens. I also represent a non-profit organization involved with a local event that occurs annually in the Jamaica, Queens’s area.

Vladislav Molchanov

Vladislav Molchanov (United Student Alliance - USA)

I acknowledge that the role of the student president is a big responsibility; I believe that the role of the Student Body President should be to give the student body a say in the decisions that the Queensborough Community College administration makes and to mediate the relationship between the student body and the school administration. I want to serve as President because I am exercising becoming excellent at understanding multiple perspectives and evaluating them based on their merits, which in perspective will make me an excellent mediator.

I feel that because of certain decisions that the school administration has made, the administration only cares about bringing in new students and not about taking care of the students who are already here and paying tuition. There are several issues that I have noticed throughout the year that I spent in QCC that I believe could be improved with the following increase in the quality of further education of QCC students. In the current semester, I was the initiator of forming a food committee that will be advocating for bringing new food vendors to the school and changing the quality of campus food - fighting food insecurity; further working with the student government body I'd like to try to make all our kitchens up and running providing free hot meals for students and faculty members if they are on the campus.

Along with that, I'd like to work on increasing student engagement in student life on campus in several ways beginning with the approach of organizing student activity events.

If elected, I want to assure every student to feel comfortable to approach me at any time with their ideas and plans on what they think should be improved. I'd be open to hearing and working on them if I can find a way to make those things happen.

The role of a president is to lead with a kind heart and a sound mind. As a student, I am focused, determined, driven and I shoot for the stars in everything I do, no matter the time I may have to put in or the sacrifices I may have to make. As your student president, I vow to listen and comprehend every change needed and every suggestion taken to bettering us as a whole because at the end of the day we represent QCC and I, Kezia Prince, will represent you. I will be honest, fair, soft spoken and patient to cater to the needs of everyone. I will not push any concern aside and I will be extremely engaged in everything in everything needed to make our school the best it can be. Thank You

The role of student government president is to make sure I can try my best to make students have a better experience at Queensborough Community College. I have served as student government president just last semester. As the President of student government I will make sure there are more opportunities for the students. I will try to make Queensborough even a better place than before. Vote for me if you want to have many more opportunities and events at Queensborough. It would be a pleasure of me to serve as your president. I will make sure there are many more events at Queensborough and help out students to achieve their goals. Last semester it was tough to make many changes as of Queensborough had just started last semester to have students back on campus. As we have everybody getting vaccinated and making it a safer experience and with everyone back on campus I want there to be many opportunities for students and make it a great experience for each and one of you before you graduate.

Samantha Roberts

Samantha Roberts (United Student Alliance- USA)

I, Samantha Roberts, am looking forward to the candidacy of Executive Vice President at Queensborough Community College. The primary focus of my campaign is threefold: transparency, dedication, and community.

The most effective way to ensure the growth of the students, as well as the school, is by having leaders that maintain transparency and accessibility. To me, that means having a leader who communicates their goals and is eager to hear the goals of the student body. I believe that my experience as a community mental health advocate will better my understanding of the student body and their concerns, as well as improve communication between the Executive Board and the Student Senate.

As a student at this school, and a Queens native, I, like many of you, want to see that the decision-maker of my school and my city is motivated to create progress for the collective in a focused, efficient matter. If elected, I am committed to supporting and assisting the president whenever necessary, in ways including calling all student-senate meetings, as well as providing an outline of the school's activities to the Queensborough Student Association.

As your Executive Vice President, I plan to restore our collective sense of community within the school. Since the pandemic and the rise of virtual learning, on-campus engagement quickly declined. Part of my focus, if elected, is to grow student involvement in clubs and activities, as well as create more outlets for academic assistance, ubiquitous for any student in need.

If elected, I promise to act in the most beneficial interest for the success and growth of Queensborough, while keeping these three key components in mind.

Hi! It's hard not to repeat what others would probably say because we all have great ideas. None the less as an Executive Vice president you are not only the second person in the SGA, you become another helper of students need especially during this hectic time. My role is to assist on school activities and potential programs. One of my goal is to create more study sessions for those trying to enter the nursing programs. But also encourage all QCC students to ask for help and opportunities. This position will also add to my experience, and my creativity as I plan to be an active and dedicated member.

I considered myself to be very ongoing, motivated and a very happy person overall. My personality has allowed me to open up to a lot of students due to my desire to help and be involved .One if the reason perhaps is the many siblings I grow up and the different ideas we all have and had to make compromises to please all but to work together.

Talking about siblings I plan to work together with my twin sister who's also running for vice president in the evening time. We would be here for the students because that’s our goal this year other than graduation of course 😆.

I really like this quote because you don't have to be the first to speak, the smartest person in the room but “if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." I will accomplish my role by not only being the voice but push others if I see them struggle do benefit from the many opportunities QCC has to offer such the clubs, programs and internships. As I mention before we all have great ideas and desire for the role but not all have the mindset to make this role their priority as I plan to do. Thank you

Charissa Davis

Hello, I am Charissa Davis (Kuh-rissa Day-vis) and I'm running for the Student Government Association (SGA) position, Administrative Vice President (Admin VP). I am majoring in Theater Arts here at Queensborough Community College (QCC), and I have a firm background in Customer Service. You can trust that I am capable to successfully communicate respectfully and without bias.

The role of the Admin VP is closely related Customer Service and my area of study, and I believe that it is an honorable position because it stands as liaison between the students and staff. The Admin VP's duties include coordinating Queensborough Student Association (QSA) student group activities and leadership events sponsored by the QSA. Jerry Li

The Administrative Vice President plays an extremely crucial role in the student government here at Queensborough Community College. As the Administrative Vice President, a few of my responsibilities will include, interacting with all the various clubs and their respective presidents, coordinating leadership events sponsored by the QSA, and serving as the acting chairperson for the ratification committee. My goals as the Administrative Vice President are to help foster a greater sense of community and family here at QCC, I hope to achieve this by being a profound and active advocator in the admission of more people in clubs and by helping others connect with more like-minded individuals through club activities/events. It is my personal opinion, that the pandemic has been enormously detrimental towards the social life here at Queensborough, and I wish to become an instrument that helps bring people together and serves as a spark to the beginnings of new relationships brought upon by shared common interests. I hope to not only continue to carry on the extraordinary groundwork in club activities that have already been laid out, but to also bring about reforms in the club systems. As a fellow student here at QCC I can understand many of the struggles one may have when trying to find a club/group to commit to and the issues one may face when trying to find like-minded individuals with shared common interests. Therefore as the administrative vice president, I hope to ratify and support even more clubs/events that will bring people together and continue to avidly promote the various different clubs available for students. I hope to accomplish these ambitions by using my prior experience from roles involving club affairs and volunteer work. Furthermore, I will continue to be an active member of the community here on campus and meticulously listen to the wants and needs of the people, in order to best represent the interest of the general student body. It is my belief that all clubs and each and every one of their respective members adds an enormous amount to the quality of student life here at Queensborough, and in order to be best served and have your interest represented, you need someone who is active in the community and is extremely willing to listen; things I am more than happy to do for you.

As a student of Queensborough, I know little of this school. I have yet to make a friend or someone I can stop in the halls to have a conversation with. Everyone is more interested in coming to class passing and leaving and yes those are good goals. However, we all can’t just repeat the same thing every day. I want to be able to make friends, and I want the same for other students. I want them to be able to be at a school event and see new faces. Learn new things. I want students to feel as though it's not a hassle to come to school, not just to learn but to also come because they enjoy it. Because there’s some kind of activity that they like going on. I've always thought college was this place where you can make lasting memories with friends, however with Covid-19 it’s been hard to do that. And I understand why many distance themselves from any kind of in-person activity. I want to be able to help students find a place where they feel as though they can belong. I want to be able to have students coming to campus because something fun is happening or they are a part of some kind of fun activity, in a safe way of course. I would also love to be able to get the facilities involved too.

My main goal is to get everyone involved. To use my position to bring smiles to many students and faculty.

Renaediaz Miller

Renaediaz Miller

We all know politicians lie but I have no need. I will say what I feel needs to be said, and do what I feel needs to be done to benefit us as students and me as an individual. I am genuinely interested in all interests, concerns, and issues that students face if a student has an interest or idea but doesn’t know how to go about it. I will assist the best I can whether that’s starting a new club, joining a new club, or even assistance starting your business. I would be glad to communicate with you. I want to know all problems students are challenged with and I do not care what the problem is no matter how small, obvious, or silly if a student's request or concern is out of my command. I will go through the proper channels to address the request and issues to make sure our voice is heard. I also maintained a budget and reflected all expenditures for events planned in conjunction with the activities, so you know part of my responsibility. Another reason is that I what the experience helps my fellow student at large, I also see different issues that I would like to address like the time the library closes, and the seriousness of staff addressing a student if problems arise and needs to be solved. The reason why you should elect me is that there is no one who is as dedicated or bluntly honest as me to do the job. I will even confront my peers as well QSA Executive Board itself if I feel the effort and we’re putting out lackluster, not helping enough students.

I chose running candidate for SGA Vice President for Evening Students because I believe the student government board needs someone responsible and adequate to fill the role of maintaining a budget that can accommodate all of the students and the programs needed at QCC. I am a very organized person and believe a budget should be well maintained through SGA. I can be rational when it comes to making big decisions and make valuable decisions when it comes to making the right vote in the senate. I am a people person and love to communicate and work in team based environments.

Emily Diana

Emily Diana

I’m going to be completely honest. I have no idea why I’m running for student government. I did it in high school and it was something I really enjoyed. So maybe that’s my reason. I did a lot of work planning and organizing day to day events as well as larger events such as fundraisers, dances, and sports events. I also handled budgeting, communications with faculty, and social media promotions. Social media ended up being something that was really useful especially once schools switched to remote learning. The majority of my day to day responsibilities included making sure clubs were running smoothly, making deposits from daily sales, and meeting with other members of student government for check-ins. I don’t know what college student government entails but I do know the most basic element of it is to support the student body. It’s pointless to promise a bunch of things you will do for the campus and general community. The only thing I will say is that I will listen to concerns from the student body and work with other members of the Student Government to find and execute solutions in a timely manner. Community is something that can really affect how we function on a day to day basis. It’s important to have everyone’s ideas heard and considered when running any sort of organization. I will use my leadership and organizational skills to assist the student government in whatever they need and form a larger sense of community that we can all contribute to and be proud of.

Allison Rodrigues

Hi, I’m Allison Rodrigues and I’ve chosen to run for Vice-President for Part-Time students. I am confident that I am a great fit for this position for several reasons. I am very detail oriented, highly responsible and will always make positivity/growth in the community my #1 priority. I also pride myself on my time management and leadership skills. I plan to bring in my own skills while also being prepared to learn any new skills on my own to succeed in this position. I know the position entails a lot of responsibility and serious tasks such as financial reports, monthly meetings and being a voting member of QSA executive board. Not only do I believe I will be able to handle all these responsibilities because of my dedication to go above and beyond for the job but also because of my personal interest in finances and overall being part of a team. I am committed to being easy to work with, communicate with and an overall a great asset to the student body government. If I am elected as candidate, I plan to assist the Programming Vice President in coordinating all events/clubs for part-time students, documenting all financial expenditures on time and perfectly. Attending every meeting or voting decision and overall establishing a great relationship with the part-time students, APC and QSA executive board. I am committed to not staying in the shadows and actually putting in the time and effort that is needed to make our student government a productive and peaceful place all while improving our student body. I am confident I can bring success to the position of Vice President for Part-time students.

Hafiz Tariq

Hafiz Tariq

Hello, It's Hafiz Tariq. I'm running for the Vice President position for part-time students. I started QCC as a pre-nursing major student but after completing three semesters and getting into the nursing program, I realized that nursing is not for me. During the third semester at QCC, I was able to find a lot of resources that helped me understand student success. I was good academically but I lack the opportunities that could help me to become the best of myself. Like myself, there are many students at QCC who are facing challenges (financially or academically) that limit their ability to become a leader. We have a proportionally higher number of students who enrolled part-time. I want to become a voice for part-time students and help them succeed as a student. I have realized that there is a lack of communication or interaction between students and SGA. I want to fill this gap through peer-peer relationships. We have a diverse community of students at QCC. As an immigrant, I feel everyone should have equal opportunities. I believe in "EQUITY". I know part-time students usually do not get as many opportunities as others at the time they need it the most. For example, there are many internships and scholarship opportunities that exclude part-time students from applying. Also, many programs do not accept part-time students like CSTEP & ASAP. These two programs particularly help students succeed by providing resources like mentoring, special advisor, etc. I want to help part-time students get these resources that will not only help them succeed in their academic journey but also will help them become the best version of themselves. As an inspired pre-med student, I was able to get these resources like an internship at NYU (paid), research opportunity at QCC/City College (paid), tutoring opportunity at QCC, finding mentors, and getting involved in other extracurricular activities. I want part-time students to have similar resources. Part time students means you have a full time job and other businesses too, dealing with stress, mental wellbeing and having a time for refreshment is also very important for part time students. I want to organize a "part-time student resource body" that will help allocate these resources to part-time students. To organize this part-time student resource body I need your support. Please join my campaign and Vote for the best interest of part-time students!!!!

Vote for Hafiz!!!! Vote for Part Time Students!!!!

Student Senator-At-Large

Serves as a checks and balance for the QSA Executive Board.

Meet the Candidates:

Maxen Cheng

Maxen Cheng (Write-In Candidate)

Maria Diaz

Maria Diaz

Student senators' roles are important, as they represent the student body and the needs/ ideas of students to administration and serve as a checks and balances for the executive board. As a member in the student senate, I will fulfill my role alongside my peers and represent not only the student body efficiently, but the students of QCC by taking into account their best interests. Teamwork is a very important aspect in this part of the student body, and in general, so my goal is to ensure that there is good communication and cooperation, as well as maintaining a balance/ fairness all throughout.

As a hardworking student among many, I will achieve this through working beside the student body, engaging, supporting, attending all meetings/programs needed, and making important decisions on behalf of the students. Within the student senate/ body, administration, and students, I will try my best to be a dependable, helpful person; a person who people feel comfortable coming to with anything. I hope to learn, grow, and improve myself through being a part of the student senators to better the school/ campus to the best of my ability. I hope to form meaningful relationships with my peers and staff, and grow together. I would be grateful for the opportunity to work next to others and play an active, efficient role on campus, making a difference, and helping those who need it

Zircarmel Dorcely

Zircarmel Dorcely

First, as a senator, you are a member of a congress who participates in the legislative process as well as the oversight of the government. This leads me to feel that, as a student senator, I will be able to have a significant effect on the way things are handled going forward. It has come to my attention that many of my fellow Haitians, international students, and local student are not actively participating in many of the school's activities, which I find to be a shame. Since the conclusion of my Pre-College courses, it seems that the student government is not actively participating in either the student life on campus or the student life online. I have the potential to enact change by presenting new ideas, understanding what students require from the student government in terms of assistance, and convincing students that we are not an organization led by a college leader rather than by students who understand what it means to be a student and how difficult it can be at times.

Queensborough Tiger

Brian Farr

It is with great privilege I wish to submit my application to run for and serve on the Student Government Association at QCC. My aim as a member of SGA is to improve the quality of life of students on and off campus. I'd like to collaborate with the school administration to increase the number of internship and work opportunities available to students, giving us more chances to succeed after graduation. At SGA meetings, I will do my best to represent the voices and concerns of students. If elected as Senator-at-Large, I look forward to serving my fellow students and friends to the best of my abilities.

Na Li

Na Li

My name is Na Li, and I am a nursing student at QCC. The experience working with the underserved populations, who were suffering from serious health problems, convinced me continuously of my strong inner desire for running in a leadership position for the underserved. I've also devoted a portion of my time to missionary and volunteer opportunities. I volunteered to help families and individuals who were experiencing medical problems, life crisis, adjustment problems, economic hardship, and acculturations in various settings. Most of them were underserved, high-risk, and newly immigrated populations. While assisting them and listening to the difficulties that individuals shared with them, I recognized that my ability is ready to assist the people in addressing their underlying issues. My involvement in extracurricular activities and volunteer work taught me how to successfully balance the tasks that were assigned to me while still managing my academics. Furthermore, I've become accustomed to working with and around large groups.

By supporting me, you would be selecting someone with expertise in student government as well as a collaborative workstyle. I want to become your Senator to prosper and be a constructive group that affects positive change on campus. Furthermore, I want to be a senator to whom you can come to with questions, suggestions, or general worries about the direction of college policy. I'd like to be there for you. As a Senator, I will be more involved with all of QCC students in order to establish a prosperous and inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive both academically and socially. I appreciate you taking the time to read this letter, and I hope to have the opportunity to work with you as your Senator.

Chibuike Obidegwu

Chibuike Obidegwu

I want to apply for this role because I have a great Belief in change for the school and students.

Mohammad Mballo

Mohammad Mballo

The role of the SGA senator is to monitor the activities of the executive board and to also hear the concerns of the students of QCC. The Student Senator at Large consists of 20 student senators. As one of these 20 students, I plan on representing the student body as accurately as possible, leaving biases at the door, while still using my best judgment. I'd also like to mention that I want to put emphasis on accessibility which I believe is crucial to avoid being out of touch with fellow students. As a senator, I'll use my power to close the gap between students and administration as much as I can. One of the ways I'll do this is by using my power as a senator to make proposals that favor students to college committees and faculty.

I believe that a successful student senator is one that works with initiative and has the will to gear this initiative to support the student body with all of the powers granted to him/her/them by the constitution. I also believe that a senator needs to be easily accessible to the student body, such that any one student can reach out and have their concerns considered. These are my definitions of a successful senator, and I hope to be a successful senator. If elected, I will do my best to bring to attention the needs/requests of students to the rest of the senate along with the executive board.

Because of the pandemic, we had a hard time, hopefully things are getting better now. Me personally, I didn’t have the chance to get to know our college very much, but people I've met have me love our college. Thanks for every student, professor, and faculty‘s contribution, I'd really love to put in some effort too.

Within any student government role time management, effective communication and problem resolution are essential skills. But I intend to go beyond this standard by taking on an active role within our college community. The judicial board is responsible for maintaining order and balance within student government as we uphold the standard of integrity written into our constitution. As I aim to advance to the position of chairperson of the board I aspire to create a safe and productive space of collaborative thinkers and problem solvers were not only members of government but the student body can express their opinions and ideas freely. I will always make sure to promote space for growth, development and improvement within our college environment.

I believe that as members of the student government we must reflect the needs of our student body and the society we live in. An inclusive and adaptable mindset is needed to make sure that our constitution and governing members continue to represent our student body. As a judicial board member, I will strive to ensure that every governing member is held accountable for both good and bad. I know I have the drive and focus to support my fellow students to make a positive and everlasting impact on the fabric of our school.

I believe in rules and regulations. If I’m elected for student faculty disciplinary committee, I would make sure the right decisions are being made based on evidence and make sure everything is being reviewed properly before a decision is given to a case.
