Walk-In Advising
On Campus and need to speak with an academy adviser? We have limited in-person walk-in advising each week. If you are on campus you can stop into L430 or L434 in the Library building to book an appointment to see an adviser or for a walk-in appointment if available.
If you are in ASAP or any other special programs, please do not book and appointment through this service. You should contact your special program adviser.
If we are booked up for the day, you can also book a virtual zoom session or phone call with your adviser through Navigate360.
Lastly, you can call us at 718-631-6329 or academyadvisement@qcc.cuny.edu

Advisement FAQs
For any specific questions regarding tuition balances or tuition holds on your account, you should see the Bursar Department. If you have any specific questions regarding your Financial Aid package, you should speak to Financial Aid Department. Advisement can answer general questions surrounding these two topics, but specific issues with your account would be better resolved in their respective departments.
Advisers can reach out to those on campus that would have the authority to help you in difficult situations. So, if you need of a course substitution, your adviser would be able to reach out to the chairperson of that department to speak for you. Essentially, advisers would be able to speak on your behalf if you feel uncomfortable with broaching a topic with another person on campus.
Your adviser can and will explore options with you regarding educational paths, but remember, you also must be active in researching and thinking about career goals! Your adviser may also refer you to our Career Counseling center, for extra assistance.
Reaching out to the Academies main phone line and our front desk staff will give you an appointment with another adviser. Our advisers are all specialized in all majors and programs on campus, so you will still receive the same level of quality support.
You can speak with your adviser regarding any difficult situations that you are currently encountering on campus. Depending on the severity of the situation, your adviser may seek additional assistance from our various other student support services to help you.
All majors at QCC have a set of courses that are core requirements (general education requirements) for the degree you are pursuing, regardless of your major. The general education requirements are courses like English, Math, Social Sciences (such as Psychology or Sociology), and courses like History and Speech Communication. These are all course that may be needed, in addition to the classes you need for your major.
Your adviser will be listed in CUNYFirst and in Navigate360 about 3 weeks into your first semester. You will also receive a welcome email from your adviser about 2-3 weeks into your first semester. This will be sent to your QCC email, so it is important you have that setup and check it regularly. If you have questions before that you can contact the general advising office email or phone number.
You are assigned an adviser in your first semester, and it is our hope you will stay with the adviser until you finish and graduate at QCC. In some cases, you may have formed a relationship with someone and want to switch your adviser. Advising isn't always able to accommodate those changes because advisers have many students that are assigned to them and must maintain an equal amount of students they are responsible for.
While an adviser will explain to you which courses to select and how to find them to stay on track for graduation, it is our expectation that you are registering on your own each semester. Seeing an adviser once a semester is strongly recommended and in some programs it is required. However, you should be registering for those courses on your own after consulting with your adviser.
Yes, it is our goal that your adviser will stay with you until you graduate, unless your adviser leaves QCC or if you become part of a specialized program (such as ASAP, CD) later on.
