“It was a mystical experience handling artifacts in the African art collection,” said Queen Hall, who participated in the QCC Art Gallery internship this past summer. I could feel the life, the essence of the person who created the piece. When I was younger, I was fearful of African deities but now, I understand the cross-cultural connection between content and diaspora.”

Queen is a full-time, second semester student in the Gallery & Museum Studies (GMS) program at Queensborough.

Leaders and Learners Appreciation Breakfast

Several Queensborough students got the rare opportunity to share breakfast and conversation with elected officials in Queens. The Leaders and Learners Appreciation Breakfast was a chance to thank the legislators for their support and allow them to get to know some of the students and share stories about themselves and their careers.

Legislators at the breakfast included Queens Borough President Donovan Richards; NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr.; NYS Senator John Liu; NYS Senator Jessica Ramos; Assemblyman Edward C. Braunstein; Assemblymember Catalina Cruz; Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas; Assemblymember Nily Rozic; Assemblymember Clyde Vanel; Assemblymember David Weprin; and NY Council Member Linda Lee. Jeffrey Rodus, CUNY Vice Chancellor for Government Affairs, also attended the breakfast.

Another Home Run in a Long List of Hits for Ryan Sandberg

Former Queensborough All-American pitcher Ryan Sandberg won the Frontier League Championship on September 14 as a member of the Quebec Capitales.

"We're proud of Ryan and what he's been able to accomplish in his college and professional career since moving on from QCC,” said Jon Hochberg, Director of Athletics. “He came to us under recruited and coming off an injury in high school, and he's turned the opportunity into a highly successful and decorated career at the 4-year level and now the professional ranks. "

Sandberg, who majored in Liberal Arts & Sciences said, “I love baseball and I’m equally driven to do well academically. I was in good hands with Queensborough on both fronts.”

No, not the type that is one disgruntled neighbor away from a surprise visit from the police. Rather, this one was a celebration of culture.

We are in the middle of Hispanic Heritage Month, and for the first time the Hispanic/Latinx Faculty and Staff Association introduced themselves to the campus and lead the College’s Hispanic Heritage Month kick-off event.
