Michelle Barnett, class of 2011

Attaining my Associate’s degree in Business Administration at QCC has advanced both my academic and career endeavors in numerous ways. After graduating from QCC I was able to transfer to Baruch College where I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. The transition was seamless and I was completely prepared for all the required courses. In addition, I acquired valuable administrative skills that helped me earn my current internship at Brant Publications, Inc. where I work in the Human Resources department. I use these skills daily to complete the tasks and responsibilities assigned to me whether it is data entry, conducting interviews or performing basic clerical duties.

The Office of Career Services has always been a great resource to me during my study at QCC. In meeting Ms. Grossman, the Internship Coordinator, I sought and received wise advice that helped me to reevaluate several aspects of my professional pursuit. Although I did not participate in an internship while attending QCC, Ms. Grossman encouraged me to attend various Internship Fairs to better understand the different types of work environments and how to pursue a job. She also gave me wonderful pointers on how to revise and perfect my resume. In addition, Ms. Grossman taught me how to greet employers at an interview, a valuable lesson that helped me on many occasions.

Overall, I definitely took away worthwhile lessons from QCC. I am able to prepare myself for any work environment and put myself in position to land great opportunities. I am very appreciative of Ms. Grossman for convincing me to complete my degree before transferring, because even without my Bachelor’s I am still a qualified candidate able to compete for a job related to my academic background.
