Financial Support: 1) Scholar stipend (up to $500/month) while working on college transfer. 2) Fees associated with the college transfer application process. 3) Cost of transfer applications (up to 10 schools) estimated value $1,000 including: high school and college transcripts, CSS profile, writing coach, transfer coach. 4) Provide transportation home at the beginning of the academic year, winter break, and end of the year while enrolled at a four-year institution.


Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a student currently matriculated in an Associate's Degree program that we recruit from in the NYC/NJ area.*
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Completed 24 of 35 non-remedial credits by the end of your Spring semester.*
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Qualify for federal financial aid.
  • Committed to transfer to a Bachelor's program immediately upon completion of an Associate's Degree.
  • If you will have earned more than 30 credits towards your degree by the end of your Spring semester but will still be enrolled in the upcoming Fall semester, please contact the Foundation directly to discuss your unique situation.
  • If you are graduating at the end of the Fall semester, and meet all the eligibility requirements, please submit an application for review.

*Queensborough Community College is a participating college.

Selection Criteria:

Interviews are required in order to be considered for the program, with no exceptions.

Application Materials/Process:

  • All application materials must be received by the date the application closes. 
  • The references (academic AND professional) must be received prior to the application being 'completed'. Our recommendation for anyone interested in applying is to secure letters of recommendation first, start your application and send the electronic request, then continue working on other aspects of the application. 
  • Interviews are required in order to be considered for the program, with no exceptions.

          Individual Interview - see website for dates (60-min. appointment), virtual via Zoom 
  • To alleviate any barriers if there are any schedule conflicts, the Foundation can provide an official letter explaining and asking to be excused from school, work, or internship responsibilities.

  • All KLP Scholars must be available for curriculum programming (see website for details)

Personal Development, Leadership Training, and Mentoring

3. Mentoring by KLP alumni and staff for a comprehensive network experience.

Additional Benefits
1. Improve your skills with individual tutoring in Math, English + the Sciences.
2. College Visits (when institutions don't offer them).
3. Laptop provided upon successful completion of the college transfer (when institutions don't offer them).
4. Scholarships of up to $3,000 per year toward your Associate's Degree.
5. Cultural enrichment to broaden your cultural experiences through events and visits focusing on the rich diversity of NYC.

Note:
All KLP Scholars must be available for curriculum programming. The time commitment necessary for achieving the goal of a successful college transfer is outlined below:
  • Weekly commitment f 12-20 hours on average for asynchronous work.
  • Every Friday, 10- am to 4 pm for KLP sessions starting in the fall through the following Spring semester (Hybrid facilitation, in person and via Zoom)
  • Monday-Friday, 10 am to 4 pm during the entire month of January (winter term) to engage in all aspects of the College Transfer process (Hybrid facilitation, in person and via Zoom).
