The Academic Senate Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs met on February 1, 2023 at 2:00PM - Virtual - Zoom


Committee Members in Attendance:

Present: Arthur Abramov (2025), Rezan Akpinar (2023, Chair), Lyubomir Boyadzhiev (2024), Carlene Byfield (2024), Rondi Davies (2023), Jennifer Klein (2024), Kevin Kolack (Secretary, 2025), Danny Mangra (2025)

Not present:  Melissa Dennihy (Vice-Chair 2023; teaching conflict)

Present: Michael Pullin (President's designee)

Not present: Mark Ulrich (Steering Committee designee)


Business:

The meeting was called to order at 2:02PM

  1. Attendance
  2. Minutes from December meeting were approved without changes.
  3. Plagiarism / AI  Workshop/Faculty Forum – Dennihy got 5 faculty from English who want to present/lead discussion. Aiming for March date. Forum-style present their efforts and then open discussion. Committee will ask folks in their dept if they’d like to be a presenter to broaden the field beyond English. Klein or someone from her office/division will present as well. We can refer to the CUNYCentral seminar on Friday, February 17, 2-3pm “Introduction to ChatGPT” https://tinyurl.com/2p8enwe8
  4. Pullin is getting in contact with CETL regarding his seminar for a Feb date.
  5. Akpinar will reach out to eLearning Chair about best practices and revising Guidelines for presentation at a forum in April, and having Provost bring up at a Chair’s mtg.
  6. Survey on Student Evaluation Form of Faculty. Will send survey to Fishera for distribution.
  7. Discussion about adding “do evals” to CUNYFirst “to do list” and/or Blackboard announcement. Pullin reached out to Romanelli about CF. Akpinar will reach out to Denis about Bb announcement. Klein works with student activities committee and will ask them to reach out to their networks.
  8. Students were never consulted about the eval form. Focus groups or survey to find out whether they like the questions or understand the importance? Akpinar will discuss with the Steering Committee. Klein will ask the Student Activities committee to add questions to their survey if they have one going out.
  9. New business: Will try to arrange next meeting in RF202. Will have to send Doodle poll. Akpinar will send.
