The Academic Senate Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs met on April 25, 2018 at 1:00 pm in S 322


Committee Members in Attendance:

Tirandai Hemraj-Benny (Chairperson); Rezan Akpinar (Faculty); Anuradha Srivastava (Faculty); Manachanallur Ravi (Faculty); Merlinda Drini (Faculty); Vazgen Shekoyan (Faculty); Susan Riekert (Steering Committee)


Business:

The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm

  1. The minutes of the last meeting were approved with three edits.
  2. The committee members present at the meeting unanimously voted to edit the Bylaws Charge. The following changes were agreed upon:

 a)    “Arrange for the presentation of lectures, seminars, workshops, and exhibits to specifically include effectiveness of instruction” to “Promote and/or arrange for the presentation of lectures, seminars, workshops, and exhibits to specifically include effectiveness of instruction.”

b)    “Oversee and promote activities beneficial to elective programs such as the CUNY-BA/BS, International Studies, and Honors program” to “Review and/or promote activities beneficial to elective programs such as the CUNY-BA/BS, International Studies, and Honors program.”

 Appropriate steps for submission to the Bylaws Committee will be taken.

3. The document “A Guide for Committee on Academic Development” was edited and updated by the Chairperson. The committee started to discuss the edited changes. The document will be sent to the committee members by email for additional comment.

4. Dr. Rezan Akpinar expressed the need for the ADC to survey QCC faculty to determine ‘gaps’ in workshop offerings on campus and submit recommendations to CETL.

5. A possibility of separating faculty events from student events on the weekly QCC Events Calendar was discussed.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 pm
