  1. Approved Committee Meeting Minutes from May 6, 2021 (with the added attendance for Mark Ulrich)

 

           

 The Committee on Academic Development reviewed:

  • SoTL publication events going well. About a dozen participants. There are 4 more sessions left for the semester. The deadline to sign up was in May. Multiple outreach was done for workshop. Must confirm whether events are being recorded. Ensure that videos are accessible online. Melissa will find out how many signed up for the event and how many actually attended. Rezan will follow up with Meghmala Tarafdar (English Department) to see if anyone else can join.
  • Discuss working with E-Learning committee to have more workshops. Possible workshop topics:
  • Markdown program workshop (text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers. Markdown allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML)- E-Learning Committee. ADC to promote and co-sponsor.
  • HyFlex (Hybrid Flexible) Program workshop (combines face-to-face and online learning) E-Learning Committee. ADC to promote and co-sponsor.
  • Brainstorming sessions about faculty office hours to assist students needing extra help. We just need a moderator to lead the session. We do not necessarily need content, just have a discussion. TBD
  • Perusal program (a social reading platform available to students as an integration into the LMS. Perusall allows students (and teaching staff) to digitally annotate readings (with text, links, and embedded content). - Michael Pullin. Already has presentation ready.
  • Plickers program (a rapid-response classroom-polling app that lets teachers use one mobile device to scan paper cards for student responses) - Michael Pullin. Already has presentation ready.
  • All workshop ideas to be sent to Rezan Akpinar and Melissa Dennihy for review. Committee members can ask their department for any ideas on workshop topics (i.e. Hybrid modalities). ADC committee will review ideas together and confirm workshop topics for next semester.
  • Sub Committees:
  • Change of Name/ abbreviation and development of Logo: Work with marketing department. Change of name must be reviewed by Steering Committee and Academic Senate for approval. Rex Taibu, Carlene Byfield, Rezan Akpinar
  • Breakdown of committee charges/duties: Review guidelines on how to fulfil all charges. Crystal Moscat, Rezan Akpinar
  • Student Evaluation: When and how are evaluations administered? Melissa Dennihy, Lyubomir I. Boyadzhiev, Rezan Akpinar
