The Academic Senate Committee on Awards and Scholarships met on September 22, 2021, 12:30 PM via Zoom

The meeting was called to order at 2:00 PM

Introduction

Discussion

The agenda was distributed by Ewa Stelmach before the meeting via email.

The minutes of May 28, 2021 were reviewed.

Decision

The minutes were approved for posting.

 

Discussions

Addendum to the General Guide for All Standing Committees

The committee reviewed the General Committee Guide prior to the meeting and discussed the addendum to the General Guide for All Standing Committees.

Decision

The Chair, Ewa Stelmach, will draft the addendum and share with the committee for the final check. The Chair will contact the Bylaws committee to propose the changes to the Bylaws for ASC.

Revising the essay requirements

Every attending member expressed their opinions regarding the current essay requirements for continuing student academic merit scholarship applications and discussed the evaluation criteria.

Decision

 

To encourage more students to apply for the scholarship and streamline the application and review procedures, it was decided that writing prompts be replaced by the following statement for the applicants: Please inform the Awards and Scholarship Committee about how this scholarship will help you continue your studies at QCC.

 

Future Meetings (fall 2021)

Discussion

The next meeting in Fall 2021 is scheduled on December 8th, 2021, 12-2pm.
