The Academic Senate Committee on Continuing Education & Workforce Development Committee met on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 on Zoom

The meeting was called to order at 1:00 PM

  1. Attendance: Hui-Yin Hsu, Elaine Friedman, Philip Nelan, Anurada Srivastava, Humberto Morales, Gabriel Lataianu, Jannette Urciuoli, Agnieszka Tuszynska

 

  1. Dr. Jannette Urciuoli, Academic Senate:

 

  • Jannette Urciuoli encourages committee members to attend senate meetings and share our activities on the committee with the Senate. Dean Hsu voiced that she hopes we can discuss our goals and what we would like to prioritize our goals for the committee. Identify a few goals. Dean Hsu encourages the committee to share our work with our department and represent the committee there. Be the ambassador of the committee.

 

  • Send overview of our minutes or a memo to Zivah Katz or Jannette Urciuoli. Submit memo two weeks prior to that Senate meeting and share the minutes with the committee earlier and work on it as a committee before the Academic Senate Meeting. The Senate meets 2nd Tuesday of every month, 3 PM. Located on their calendar.

 

  • Jannette mentioned that she hopes more students will be involved in our committee work. She encourages the committee to update the website and then include the meeting dates for upcoming meetings. Post meetings once the minutes have been approved.

 

  • Dean Hsu supports transparency and communication between committee members and with the senate as well.

 

  • Committee guide: Please update the guide. The last time it was updated was 2016. Write your own addendum to the committee guide, so people know how the committee works.
  1. Approval of Meeting Minutes- February 17, 2021: Approved

    4.  Welcome to Elaine Friedman, from the Communications Department, to the committee

    5.   Elections for 2021 – 2022 (Chairperson and Secretary)

  • New members: Jun Shin, Chemistry
  • Incoming Chair: Alison Cimino
  • Incoming Secretary to be decided Fall 2021
  1.   Far Rockaway Learning Site:
  • Immersive Learning Program extending to Far Rockaway area. There is a new building. QCC Building in Far Rockaway. Training program and offer presence there and establish their program. They want to move forward with the building and the committee members in Far Rockaway.

 

  • Starting from this week we are funding six sections of employment that will include QCC alumni. We had many applications. We were able to screen out 50 and then select 25 students. We will continue to offer more sections next year. Imbed 21st century workplace skills.
  1. Final Comments:
  • We can still work with Dean Hsu even if we are no longer on the committee. If we accomplish something together for our school and community, this is what matters.

 

  • Dean Hsu thanks Philip Nelan for his dedicated service as chair of the committee and thanks Alison Cimino for her service as secretary. The committee welcomes Alison Cimino as incoming chair. Elections for secretary will be held again Fall 2021.
  1. Next Meeting – Wednesday, September 15, 2021, 12-1 PM on Zoom (changed to September 29, 2021, 12-1 PM to accommodate the Academic Calendar)
