The Academic Senate Committee on Continuing Education & Workforce Development Committee met on October 4, 23, at 12 noon in Room: A-403

  1. Review the Minutes from April 26th Meeting: Postponed until the minutes are ready.

 

  1. Attendance: Dean Ellen Hartigan, Deon Gibson, Jun Shin, Alison Cimino, Lori Conkling (Secretary), Rex Taibu (Chairperson), Jacqueline Montgomery, and Ekaterina Manafeeva.

 

 

  1. Welcome Remarks: Committee chairperson Rex Taibu gave opening remarks and welcomed members in attendance.

 

  1. Review of CEWD Charges to Reflect Committee Responsibilities: Rex Taibu distributed a document outlining the existing CEWD charges and proposed modifications to participants. He guided a discussion aimed at refining these charges further. Following deliberations, the chairperson committed to circulating the revised charges to the bylaws committee for their input. Additionally, he informed the participants that upon approval from the bylaws committee, he would submit the revised charges to the senate steering committee for their review and subsequent approval.

 

  1. Discussion on CEWD Reorganization Plan: Dean Ellen Hartigan initiated the discussion on the CEWD reorganization plan. Prior to the meeting, the Dean had shared the plan with committee members for review. During the session, Dean Ellen invited questions from the attendees regarding the reorganization plan. The committee provided feedback, noting that the plan was well-crafted. Suggestions included the need to expand course abbreviations (e.g., POE) or incorporate a glossary of terms for clarity. Additionally, there was a request for clarification on the terms 'tuition-based programs' and 'credit-bearing courses'. The Dean acknowledged these comments and committed to addressing them accordingly.

 

  1. Grant Updates: Lori Conkling provided the committee with an update on the Workforce Development Grants recently awarded to the CEWD office this year.

 

  1. Webpage Updates: The committee conducted a thorough review of both the CEWD Committee webpage and the CEWD Office webpage, identifying areas for improvement. Discussion focused on updating the Committee Guide Addendum Page within the CEWD Committee webpage, with Deon Gibson volunteering assistance for this task. Furthermore, the committee addressed the necessity of rectifying broken links on the CEWD Committee webpage and emphasized the importance of regular review of the CEWD Office webpage to ensure accuracy and enhance its visual appeal and informativeness for viewers.
