The Academic Senate Committee on eLearning met on May 14, 2020 at 3:00PM via WebEx (Online)


Committee Members in Attendance:

In Attendance: Zeynep Akcay (2020), Peter Novick (2020), Lakersha Smith (2021), Zhou Zhou (2022), Susan Lago (2022), Randelle Sasa (2022) Eugene Desepoli (2021), Merlinda Drini-Prelvukay (2023), Zivah Katz (Steering Committee Designee)and Shiang-Kwei Wang (President’s designee).

Not present: Nina Sarkar (2020), Svjetlana Bukvich-Nichols (2021), Punita Bhansali (2023) and Sebastian Murolo (2023).


Business:

The meeting was called to order at 3:02PM

Minutes of April 24th, 2020 – approved by unanimous vote.

OET/CETL update and announcements

  • Denis was not available for the meeting, but Zeynep and Shiang-Kwei provided some updates on OET. The traditional eLearning institute is not running, and instead there are teams helping faculty new to eLearning create their courses according to the QM rubric. The traditional eLearning institute was in the process of being digitized for training faculty, but was interrupted by the shutdown.

 

Old business

  • Subcommittee reports/plans/changes/additions:

Marketing of online courses (Eugene Desepoli & Peter Novick)

  • (Committee newsletter; design and implement a marketing campaign at QCC for higher recognition of online courses)
    • The Spring newsletter has been published with the help of Zeynep. Guidelines and appropriate links have been updated and linked.

Brown bag lunches for online faculty (Nina & Susan)

  • (coordinate, promote, and run informal but informative meetings for QCC faculty who are interested in online education)
    • Cancelled this semester due to the COVID-19 virus.

Policies and Standards for eLearning at QCC (All Members)

  • (work with CETL/OET to devise standards/policies for eLearning at QCC to be formally adopted by the Senate)
    • Committee members have made their comments and the new document has been uploaded with edits for 2020.
  • New business
  • Election of Chair and Secretary for 2020-2021 Academic Year
    • Randelle Sasa was elected chair
    • Susan Lago was elected secretary
  • Next meeting is TBA in the Fall.
  • Meeting was adjourned at 3:32 pm.
