Review of Suggested Charges / Committee Goals for Annual Report.

1. Report on below programs to Academic Senate by May 2023 meeting:

B-TECH, COLLEGE NOW, CLIP, CUNY START, MATH START, ENGLISH START

            When did they begin?

            What is their purpose?

What has been the number of students served?

What has been the outcomes for those students?

What is the current number of students served?

How well do these students perform in the intro level credit bearing courses of the College?

How well do these students progress at the College?

How well do these students progress to graduation?

Completed: While the committee did not report at the May 2023 Academic Senate meeting, the minutes of the 6 meetings held describe the committee's effort to monitor and report on each Pre-College Program regularly. The minutes describe some enrollment numbers but not all, and facilities used at the college by the programs. It is a goal of the committee to compile this data in an excel spreadheet for future members of the committee. One distinction about the programs that has come up during meetings was the difference between developmental programs (CUNY START and CLIP) and acceleration programs (BTech and College Now). This needs to be considered accompanying any data discussion. It has become clear that the committee should keep its own data on the programs for future use by the committee.

2. Work with CLIP and CUNYSTART and report on Integration of CLIP and CUNYSTART Pre-College programs into college life, as motivator for program participants to stay at college.

Completed: The committee continued to monitor the integration efforts of our pre-college programs to the larger college community. One thing the committee is able to report is that the college has made an effort to include CLIP and CUNY START classes into the physical spaces and classrooms of the campus. Also, various efforts have been made by the college to connect non-matriculated students to other events and programs at the college. For example, CLIP and CUNY START are regularly included in various English Department programs. It's been determined that the pre-college committee can continue to be an advocate for the programs in terms of physical space integration, but also as a promoter of events and programs that might serve as a bridge between non-matriculated students and academic departments.

3. Work with departments to allow for Credit for Prior Learning in their programs to remain competitive in marketplace.

Completed: During the March 7, 2023 Pre-College Committee Meeting, the committee voted to approve 3 industry credential reports submitted to the committee by the Engineering and Technology Department for credit for prior learning. The reports were forwarded to the full Academic Senate. You can find them here: Credit for Prior Learning Industry Credential Reports

4. Follow up on request for Enrollment Data from Enrollment Management Office with Dean Michael Pullin. Report on status to Senate by May 2023

Not-Completed: As described above, it is a goal of the committee to compile its own data to be used by the committee in the future.

5. Work on Committee Guide Addendum: paste to Addendum in Reports folder on Cascade committee-specific procedures not covered in General Committee Guide.

Not-Completed: This work is ongoing, and the committee hopes to have a more specific addendum finished in 2023.

Summary of actions not covered by above

In-Person Meetings: As can be seen from the minutes, the Pre-College Committee made a strong effort throughout the year to return to in-person meetings.

Survey of Committee Members: The committee collected survey data from committee members about knowledge of pre-college programs and goals for the committee.

Student Representative:  The commitee was happy to have a student representative, Emily Diana, at the April 27, 2023 meeting.

COMMUNICATION to ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS  The Pre-College Committee communicated with the deputy chair of Engineering and Technology about the CPL Industry Reports that were approved to be forwarded to the Academic Senate at the March 7, 2023 Pre-College Committee meeting.
