The Academic Senate Committee on Committee on Assessment & Institutional Effectiveness met on October 13, 2021 at 12:10PM via secure online meeting


Committee Members in Attendance:

Thomas Byrnes (Admissions, 2023), Urszula Golebiewska (Biology, 2024), Chukwudi Ikwueze (Social Sciences, 2022), Kevin Kolack (Chemistry, 2022, Secretary), Manuel Martinez (English, 2022), Renee Rhodd (Transfer Resources Center, 2024), Barbara Rome (Nursing, 2023), Mark Ulrich (Business, 2024), Biao Wang (Math, 2023)

Absent: TBA (student representatives)


Liaisons in Attendance:

Arthur Corradetti (Dean for Institutional Effectiveness, President's Liaison)

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 12:10 PM

  1. Approval of agenda. Approved without objections.
  2. Approval of minutes from September 29th, 2021. Approved without objections.
  3. Discuss the Committee’s assessment tasks for the 2021-22 academic year
    1. Non-teaching departments
    2. Creation of rubric for program reviews
    3. Teaching departments
      Since the latter generally occurs in the second semester, the Committee agrees to focus on the first 2 this semester.
  4. Forming of working group on the creation of a rubric for assessing program reviews
    Dr. Golebiewska, Professor Rome, and Dean Corradetti will work on this from Dr. Ikwueze’s start.
  5. Old business
    1. Update on Committee addendum
      KK has uploaded it to a Google doc and sent the link to it. Everyone will look and comment prior to the next meeting so that a final version can be uploaded to the Committee website.
    2. Scheduling and procedure for reviews on non-teaching department year-end reports
      Academic and Student Affairs have 26 reports total 2020-21. President has 1. Other divisions have few or no reports. 3 per member; Kevin will send list.
  6. New Business
    Dean Corradetti reported that at yesterday’s meeting, the Senate endorsed the 5-year strategic plan. Operational planning for the coming year begins now. This Committee can plan on looking at assessment efforts concerning the 5-year plan.
