Business:

The meeting was called to order at 12:10 PM

  1. Approval of agenda. Approved without objections.
  2. Approval of minutes from March 9th, 2022. Approved without objections.
  3. Report on the Meeting with the Senate Steering Committee. CI went to the 3/23/22 meeting. Our committee was commended for updating our Guide Addendum on the website. Advised to shorten if possible, though the redundant information has already been removed.
  4. Report on Meetings with the Chairs and Interim Provost Palmer. 4/12/22 meeting with Chairs (CI, UG, KK) went well. Chairs receptive to assistance from Committee. Highlighted the separation of the year-end report (Chairs) and assessment report (not necessarily Chairs). Interested in seeing rubrics for scoring assessment reports. Suggested having an assessment coordinator in absence of a departmental committee.
Asked for assistance from Provost at 4/13/22 meeting (CI, UG) to reinforce items from meeting the day before.
  5. Old business
    1. Presentation of teaching department assessment year-end reports.
      1. MU presented Speech Communications
    2. Using newly created rubric to present assessment results for program reviews. UG presented her updated version, developed in consultation with Dean Corradetti. She used it to tentatively evaluate 2 recent program reviews in her department. As expected, the main area lacking is faculty and staff being tied to the program outcomes. Committee decided to adopt the rubric and use it for evaluation/presentation of reports at the May meeting. KK will post rubric on Committee website.
    3. Update on a letter to the campus community on Assessment Review, the CUNY journal on Assessment Studies. Discussed at the Chairs’ meeting. Some expressed interest. Provost was asked if this journal would be viewed favorably by P&Bs, and she said she’d get back to us. Send to CETL if they want to promote, and post on the Community Dialogue.
  6. New business
    1. Invite new members to, and election of officers at, next meeting. New members were NOT elected at yesterday’s Senate meeting. It will happen at the May meeting, a day before ours, so the tentative slate will be invited.

Next meeting May 11th, 12:10PM via Zoom

Meeting adjourned 1:10pm

Respectfully submitted,

Kevin Kolack, Ph.D.
Committee on Committee on Assessment & Institutional Effectiveness, Secretary
