The Academic Senate Committee on Committee on Assessment & Institutional Effectiveness met on May 11, 2022 at 12:10PM via secure online meeting


Committee Members in Attendance:

Thomas Byrnes (Admissions, 2023), Urszula Golebiewska (Biology, 2024), Chukwudi Ikwueze (Social Sciences, 2022), Kevin Kolack (Chemistry, 2022, Secretary), Susana Pinheiro (English, 2025), Barbara Rome (Nursing, 2023), Mark Ulrich (Business, 2024)

Absent: Matthew Lau (English, 2025), Manuel Martinez (English, 2022), Renee Rhodd (Transfer Resources Center, 2024), Biao Wang (Math, 2023), Kathryn Wong (College Discovery, 2025), TBA (student representatives)

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 12:10 PM

  1. Approval of agenda. Approved without objections.
  2. Approval of minutes from April 13th, 2022. Approved without objections.
  3. Introduction of new members: Kathryn Wong (College Discovery; not present), Susana Pinheiro (Math), Matthew Lau (English; not present). Thank outgoing members: CI, KK, and MM (not present).
  4. Old business
      1. Discuss whether to inform the QCC community about the Assessment Review online journal. As noted in April minutes, CI will pass this along to CETL and post on the Dialogues.
      2. Presentation of teaching and non-teaching department assessment year-end reports and program reviews using new rubric. HUGE thanks to CI, UG, BR, and MU for assessing the remaining department reports that other Committee members did not.

        Teaching Departments

        1. CI presented: Nursing, Art & Design, Biology, Foreign Languages
        2. MU presented Social Sciences
        3. BR presented CI’s reviews of HPED, and Physics

        Non-teaching Departments

        1. MU presented and confirmed CI’s review of Student Activities, and Student Conduct & Testing
        2. CI presented Academic Affairs, Academic Computing Center, Financial Services, Health Services, International Affairs, Testing Office

        Program reviews

        1. UG presented Chemistry’s program review of Engineering Science, Biology’s program review of Biotechnology AS, and 4 STEM departments’ review of Liberal Arts & Sciences Math & Science
      3. Recommend that current and former members of the Committee serve as departmental assessment coordinators.
  5. Elect Chair(s) and Secretary.
    1. UG and BR volunteered to serve as co-Chairs; MU volunteered to serve as Secretary; elected by unanimous consent. KK will alert Steering Committee.
  6. New business
    1. Discuss the preparation of the Committee's Annual Report. UG, and KK will prepare it over the summer, disseminate it to CI and the rest of the Committee via email, and KK will post it to the website as his final duty as Secretary before leaving the Committee.
