Re: WID/WAC Committee Bylaws Wording Change

Proposal to Change Wording in Bylaws Description of WID/WAC Committee
Whereas: Senate Bylaws call for each Academic Senate Standing Committee to have student members; and
Whereas: The WID/WAC Committee deals with issues of student waiver requests for WI credit, which includes at the very least review of the student transcript and graded material; and
Whereas: It is agreed that student privacy must be maintained; and
Whereas: Both the Admissions Committee and Committee on Course and Standing include language in their Bylaws descriptions that specifically exclude student members from voting on matters pertaining to individual student records (see below*); and
Whereas: Lack of such language in the WID/WAC course description appears to be an oversight;
Therefore, be it resolved that: Article VII, section 28 of the Academic Senate Bylaws be amended to read thus: “The Committee on WID/WAC shall consist of the director or one co-director of the WID/WAC Program, nine (9) faculty members from different departments who have participated in WID/WAC professional development and one (1) student (member who shall participate and vote only on matters of policy)”; the parenthetical phrase being the amendment.
*Article VII. Committees
Section 10. The Committee on Admissions
The Committee on Admissions shall consist of six (6) members of the instructional staff and three (3) student members who shall participate and vote only on matters of policy.
Section 18. The Committee on Course and Standing
The Committee on Course and Standing shall consist of nine (9) members of the instructional staff and, in accordance with the Governance Plan, there shall be two (2) student members who shall participate and vote only on matters of policy.
