Publications Committee For November-11-2021

Minutes

The Academic Senate Committee on Publications met on Thursday, November 11, 2021, 1:10 PM-2:00 PM, via Zoom

Committee Members in Attendance:

Kerri-Ann M. Smith (co-chair), Christina Manzo (co-chair), James Geasor, Wenli Guo, Sushma Teegala, Patrick Byers (secretary).

Liaisons in Attendance:

President's Liaison: Stephen Di Dio

Not Present:

Steering Committee Liaison: Philip Pecorino

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 1:12 pm

A motion was made to approve the minutes from the previous meeting, which passed unanimously.

Guide for Committee on Publications:

Christina Manzo brought up the issue of updating the Guide for Committee on Publications and agreed to work with Patrick Byers to do that.

Guidelines for Tenure and Promotion:

New guidelines are being prepared by each department. The provost has requested that these be made available to all faculty. There was a discussion over whether or not to make the guidelines public, and if so where to host them, e.g., one common location for the guidelines for all departments, or to post each separately on department websites. Kerri-Ann Smith suggested that the guidelines might be added as an addendum/handbook to the faculty handbook so that it is not legally binding.

Handbook:

Since Phil Pecorino was not present, the scheduled update/discussion on this topic was postponed for the next meeting.

New Charge for the Committee

It was proposed that committee members take on responsibility of periodically checking the college website to identify broken links or other outdated information. It was proposed that committee members each be assigned particular divisions or departmental webpages to check. It was decided that each member of the committee would check their own department’s website, and report what is found in the first Spring meeting. James Geasor volunteered to check the student-facing pages. This task will include making a list of links not working, outdated information, and ensuring standard contact information is provided for each faculty member. James Geasor offered to send out a list of things to check.

Upcoming Meeting:

The next meeting will be on the second Thursday of December (12/9/2021).

A vote was made to adjourn the meeting at 2:02pm.
