The Academic Senate Committee on Student Activities met on February 15, 2023 at 3:00pm (Virtual)


Committee Members in Attendance:

Wilfredo Moran, Ilse Schrynemakers, Carolyn King, Kwang Hyun Kim, Jennifer Klein, Alison Mello, Raymond Volel    Excused Absence: Weier Ye


Business:

The meeting was called to order at 1:11 PM

Chairperson Wilfredo Moran called the meeting to order at 3:02 PM. 

Approval of Minutes:

  • Minutes approved from 12/15/2022 Meeting 

Agenda Discussion Topics:

  • 1.) Spring 2023 Volunteer Fair

    • Members discussed planning stages and suggestions for this semester’s fair.
      • Humanities Quad reserved for Wed April 26th 12-2pm.
        • Request for rain date (Wed May 3rd) submitted. Waiting confirmation of availability.
        • Tables can be requested from B&G after organizations have confirmed attendance closer to fair date.
        • Event will be fully in-person
      • Inviting organizations:
        • Members supported using previous year’s communications and forms to communicate with organizations.
        • Members were asked to think about additional external and on-campus organizations (Career Services, OAS, Veterans, Student Government,..) to invite.
          • Raymond/Gisela shared contact information for Resident Volunteer Corps 
          • Suggested that Google Sheet of organizations be re-shared.
          • Before next meeting, committee members are asked to add to list/update contact information as needed for any programs they may have contacted previously. Divvying list will be discussed next meeting.
        • Other logistics:
          • Flyer should be created and distributed.
            • Previous flyer, if available, will be shared and can be edited.
            • Chairperson(s) will contact marketing for approval and event promotion on website.
          • Members discussed other fair needs:
            • WiFi access for guests (Chairperson Moran will facilitate)
            • Suggestions were made to reach out New Student Engagement and Student Government for funding (if they will also participate)
            • Tables can be requested after number of organizations confirmed.

     

    2.) Involvement of Student Government

    • Chairperson Moran will extend meeting invitation to student government officers.

    3.) New Business

    • Members discussed creating and deploying survey to students (attending and hearing about campus events). Suggested that questions about ease of completing student evaluations of faculty be added. Jennifer Klein will share previous survey with Chairpersons.

    4.) Updates from Raymond/Gisela

    • 2/22/23 Student Government sponsored event Black History Month Trivia (Student Union 12pm)
    • 2/23/23 Jazz Event 12pm
