The Academic Senate Committee on Student Activities met on March 31, 2023 at 1:00pm (Virtual)


Committee Members in Attendance:

Wilfredo Moran, Ilse Schrynemakers, Carolyn King, Kwang Hyun Kim, Alison Mello, Weier Ye


Business:

The meeting was called to order at 1:06 PM

Chairperson Wilfredo Moran called the meeting to order at 1:06 PM. 

Approval of Minutes:

  • Minutes approved from 2/15/2023 Meeting 

Agenda Discussion Topics:

1.) Meeting Called to Order

2.) Approved Meeting Minutes from 2/15/23 

3.) Spring 2023 Volunteer Fair

  • Members discussed planning stages and suggestions for this semester’s fair.
    • Humanities Quad reserved for Wed April 26th 12-2pm.
      • Request for rain date (Wed May 3rd) was approved.
    • Inviting organizations:
      • Only 3 organizations have confirmed attending. Decision was made by members to continue fair on planned date (April 26th).
      • Members will follow up with organizations they previously contacted and will search for one new organization to invite.
      • Members discussed extending invitations to on-campus organizations (ex-Career Services, OAS, Veterans, Food Pantry, Student Government,..).
        • Members supported using the fair to promote on campus resources.
      • Members approved extending deadline for organizations to approve to Wednesday April 12th.
    • Other logistics:
      • Previous fair flyers supplied by Professor King can be updated upon confirmation of organizations attending. Chairperson(s) will reach out to Marketing/Creative for approval and ask about adding event to campus calendar/website.
      • Members discussed other fair needs:
        • WiFi access for guests (Chairperson Moran will facilitate)
        • Suggestions were made to reach out to Student Government for funding (if they will also participate and if so can they provide some funding for “swag”)
        • Tables and Parking Services requests can be submitted after number of organizations attending is finalized.
      • Committee will meet again on April 14th 1pm (Zoom) to discuss final fair logistics.

4.) Involvement of Student Government

  • Chairperson Moran continues to extend invitation to attend meetings to student government officers.

5.) New Business

  • Members agreed upon postponing discussion of student survey to a later meeting date (sometime after the Volunteer Fair)
