The Academic Senate Committee on Student Activities met on May 11, 2022 at 3:00pm (remote)


Committee Members in Attendance:

Kimberly Riegel, Wilfredo Moran, Ilse Schrynemakers, Carolyn King, Alison Mello, Gisela Rivera, Raymond Volel, Jennifer Klein, Kwang Hyun Kim


Business:

The meeting was called to order at 3:05 PM

Chair Kimberly Riegel called the Zoom meeting to order at 3:05 pm 

Approval of Minutes:

  • Minutes approved from 04/06/2022 Meeting

Agenda Discussion Topics:

1. Committee Elections

  • The committee thanked Kimberly Riegel for her leadership as Chairperson and William Blick for his contributions as Secretary.
  • The committee welcomed Kwang Hyun Kim as a new member.
  • Votes were held was held to fill upcoming vacancies for Committee Officers. Six voting members were present. Voting was conducted by Zoom poll.
  • Wilfredo Moran and Ilse Schrynemakers were elected as Co-Chairpersons, and Alison Mello was elected as Secretary.
2. Post-Volunteer Fair Discussion
  • Spring Volunteer Fair was held on Humanities Quad on May 11th 2022 (12-2pm)
    • Three organizations attended: Northwell Health, City Meals on Wheels, and Ronald McDonald House. Two organizations did not show. Kimberly Riegel will send thank you notes to participating organizations.
    • There was good student turnout.
    • Committee members noted that continuing to organize the fair alongside other campus events in the future is a good idea to increase traffic.
3. Student Activities Update
  • Discussion of updates led by Gisele Rivera and Raymond Volel.
  • Joint events on May 11, 2022 (Tribute to Poet Jose Marti/Volunteer Fair) were successful.
  • There may be an additional event taking place during Finals Week.
  • Student Government Board election results are available. Kezia Prince was elected President.
4. Activitied for the Upcoming Year
  • Discussion of committee involvement in upcoming activities for the 2022-2023.
  • Suggestion made to invite new Student Government leaders to attend committee meetings and share with us events and activities that our committee can help them promote.
  • Possibility of organizing Volunteer Fair in Fall 2022.
    • This would return the event to its traditional place in the Fall semester.
    • Kimberly Riegel will share Volunteer Fair organizational materials and list of organizations with new officers to help in planning upcoming Fair.
    • Suggestion was made to reach out to Student Government to try to coordinate activities to hold the fair on the same date as another student event.
  • Committee members were asked to keep in mind and help promote Fall 2022 service-learning event (Reimaging Our Campus After COVID; Contacts: Jody Resko and Jennifer Maloy). Event will be held during Fall 2022 Club Fair.
  • Kimberly Riegel reminded continuing members that the Committee Guide Addendum is in need of review during the upcoming academic year.
