The Academic Senate Committee on Student Activities met on May 14, 2018 at 1 pm in L-413


Committee Members in Attendance:

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 1:10

  1. Approval of the minutes of the March 13, 2018 by voice vote.
  2. Approval of the agenda for May 14, 2018 by voice vote.

New Business

  • Welcome two new members to the committee: Randelle Sasa and Celia Sporer.
  • Committee held election for a new Chairperson and Secretary for the Student Activities Committee.  This was done by a paper vote.  Kimberly Riegel was Elected President and Jennifer Klein was elected Secretary by the Committee.
  • Discussion of the fall 2018 volunteer fair.  A tentative date was set for September 26, 2018.  Two spaces on campus was discussed, where it was held last year in the quad or science atrium.  Rain date of October 3, 2018 was discussed as well.
  • Discussion of the review of Draft of Middle States Standard Report-conclusion that Danny Sexton will review and if changes need to be implemented he will email the committee and we can communicate through email the changes.
  • Discussion of the Annual Report.  It was discussed that at the end of each academic year a written report has to be completed for each committee.  Danny Sexton will email a hard copy.  If the committee has any suggestions for the annual report once hard copy is emailed, please email the suggestions to Danny.
  • The committee had a discussion about what the committee entailed and the purpose of the committee for the new members.
  • There was a short discussion about QCC Connect for Faculty and how to access it on our phones.  It was also discussed how it could be beneficial to the committee.
  • Discussion of how we can improve communication between committee and students on campus.  Committee decided that more presence at SGA activities, SGA fall Fair, possibly an excerpt in faculty packets for fall and working with other committees on campus can help with getting communication about Student Activities Committee more known. 
  • Student Activities Report:  Open Mic Night- SUL Lower Level
    • Black Panther Showing 5:15pm 5/14/18
    • Haitian Tasting-Great Lawn, Next Wednesday 12-2pm
    • SGA-Moonlight Screening-Lower Level SUL
    • Recognition Dinner May 30th The Inn, New Hyde Park
  • Meeting times for next semester were discussed.  Possibly Tuesdays.  An email will be sent out as the new semester approaches.
