The Academic Senate Committee on Student Activities met on November 06, 2019 at 11am in L418

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 11:04

Approval of Minutes

 

  1. Review and approve minutes from November 6, 2019 by voice vote.
  2. Approve agenda for December 12, 2019 by voice vote.

 

Old Business

 

Update on Charges:
  • Committee officially does not have new charges; we will continue to work on things from last semester.
  • Chair Kimberly Riegel will send another email to the steering committee about getting charges.

 

Student Survey:
  • Chair Kimberly Riegel discussed the deadline for the survey to be sent out and when we would want it back.
  • Objective for the survey, to find out how aware students are about activities on the campus.

 

Academies Collaboration:
  • Update: Associate Dean for Academics, Michael Pullin came to meeting to discuss an initiative to get academies and student activities club more involved in planning.
  • Discussion about too many events happening on the campus at once.
  • Dean Pullin discussed that they are planning to schedule events for academies better for next semester in order to reduce overlap of activities.
  • Discussion of Academy day idea. It’s a good idea.
  • Academy Conference day-discussion of ways to use buzzing words and incorporating Academies and Student Affairs.
  • How to make events more attractive to faculty and students?

Marketing Discussion (VP Di Dio):
  • VP Di Dio discussed that the issue with the marketing end of events is that people are not submitting the events on the event calendar.
  • SGA and Student Affairs are responsible for submitting the events on an Event Submission Form on the Marketing site.
  • Discussion about how clubs and advisors get their events populated to the events calendar, it was discussed that it goes through student’s activities.
  • Information submitted to the calendar does not automatically populate the site, there is a few days’ The expectation is to give a week for the event to populate the website. 
  • Discussion of potential fix to the issue.

New Business:  

  1. Have a discussion with Student Activities about marketing and where the disconnect is.
  2. Chair Kimberly Riegel spoke with the Administrative VP of SGA and discussed Club Ratifications. There was discussion at the meeting that SGA may form a Club Ratification Committee to make things an easier process for clubs and advisors.  Chairperson Kimberly Rigel was asked to sit on the committee.
