Every member introduced himself to the committee. The chairperson distributed the meeting agenda. The secretary distributed WID/WAD committee minutes of October 10, 2018 and February 13, 2019 to all attendees.

  1. WI Waiver
  • Nicholas O’Brien filed a petition for waiver of WI requirement on April 25, 2019 based on a D grade of MUS-250 African-American Music course taken at York College.
  • The chairperson notified members of the committee about the petition on May 11, 2019 via an email and requested members to vote.
  • Some members expressed that the D grade was not sufficient for passing a WI course. Others expressed a different view. D grade was transferrable in CUNY.
  • Ten members voted “no” and two “yes”. The committee therefore denied the petition for waiver.
  • Creating a policy for evaluating petition for waiver was recommended in the fall semester.

  1. Review of WI Certification / Future of This Process
  • 65 out of 80 faculty members submitted WI documents for review by the committee.
  • Review of WI certification was completed by all committee members.
  • Positive review results were announced to faculty members. Negative review results had not been announced.
  • Faculty members who were trained recently did a good job in teaching WI courses.
  • The committee is recommended to decide a process for the following items in the fall semester:

    • Follow up with faculty members after the announcement.
    • Motivate faculty in conducting WI courses.

  • Since there were insufficient members of the existing term at the meeting to approve the minutes, voting online was carried out.
  • ?? members voted “yes” and ?? voted “no”. The meeting minutes dated October 10, 2018 and February 13, 2019 were therefore approved by the committee.
