Business:

The meeting was called to order at 12:08 pm

  3. Update on recertification: Jeff Hall: Several faculty members reached out over the summer concerning their recertification. Since Jeff’s term as chair of the committee did not begin until fall, Jeff advised the faculty to be in touch with him again then.  The whole committee approved the recertification of Professors Kueper and Tricarico early in the semester.  Subsequently, Jeff heard from Professors DiPonio, Gliere, and Jean-Baptiste.  Since completing their recertifications required only minimal effort, Jeff was able to handle these on his own.  In Fall 2020, the committee successfully recertified the following faculty members:
    1. Joseph DiPonio, Music
    2. Jennifer Gliere, Music
    3. Claudine Jean-Baptiste, Foreign Languages
    4. Robert Kueper, Engineering Technology
    5. Donald Tricarico, Sociology
  4. Old business
    1. Discussion of proposal to Bylaws Committee
      1. Review of Charge document & Review our Revisions document
        1. Focus on Point 6: Insure through a certification and recertification process that all classes designated as WI meet the criteria for a WI class.
        2. Discussion: 20% of work for high stakes writing
          1. Change “work” to “grade”
          2. Do not include a maximum percentage for high stakes writing
        3. Discussion: Timelines for recertification
          1. “The Committee proposes that recertification be mandatory for all faculty teaching WI courses.”
            1. Arthur Corradetti: We cannot mandate, but we can strongly encourage.
            2. Adjust language to: The Committee will conduct a recertification process every three years, which will include a resubmission of materials for committee review. Department chairs are urged to support the recertification process.
            3. Proposed language: At a subsequent date, the committee will propose a recertification process when faculty will periodically be requested for review of WI materials.
  • Discussion: “6) At least one exam will have a written component.”
    1. Adjust language: “6) At least one exam could have a written component.”
  1. Discussion/Suggestion: Add CTAS visit to the Senate-approved syllabus statement
