A Night to Remember: Celebrating the Music of Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash at QPAC
On December 4th, 1956 an event occurred that was to become music legend. A jam session that seemed to have happened by pure chance started at Sam Phillips' Sun Studio and featured Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. A rock and roll tribute to this “royalty jam session”, A Night To Remember, will take place at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center (QPAC) on May 15 at 3:00 PM.
A Night to Remember will include classic songs ranging from Blue Suede Shoes and Hound Dog to Great Balls of Fire, Heartbreak Hotel and Walk the Line, featuring the legendary Sun Records recording artists’ music live for 90 minutes of rockabilly, country, gospel and pure 1950s rock and roll.
The award-winning tribute artists are:
Victor Trevino Jr., who loves all eras of Elvis Presley’s music, specializes in rockabilly from the 50s and 60s and recreates the excitement of the King's wilder years. Victor has been performing his tribute since 2005 and has fans worldwide.
Alex Brown, who recorded a debut album and opened for New York jazz musician Brian Setzer at the Montreal Jazz Fest, will be bringing all of his musicality, verve and rockabilly energy to the stage in his tribute to the great Carl Perkins.
Blair Carman, who has been described by many music fans as "The Best Thing That's Happened to Honkytonk and Rockabilly Piano Playing since Jerry Lee Lewis!" was the only Jerry Lee Lewis tribute artist invited to the Killer’s 75th birthday party, and he was invited by Jerry Lee Lewis himself. He has opened for national touring acts in Canada and the United States.
Ben Hale, who played the part of Johnny Cash in Harrah's Million Dollar Quartet in Las Vegas, is a lifelong Cash and country music fan. He also performed on the American Country Awards singing backup for Kristen Chenoweth and just finished a six year run (3,000 performances!) as an understudy (Raoul) in Phantom of The Opera at the Venetian.
“This impromptu meeting of great musical talent that took place more than 50 years ago has resulted in a masterful tribute inviting audiences to travel back to a magical, musical night,” said Susan Agin, Executive Director of QPAC.
