A Letter of Gratitude from a Former Queensborough Student to his Professor and Mentor

Published: August 10, 2016

“During my time as a student at Queensborough, I was working to support myself and my family, and attempting to better myself at the same time. It wasn't easy but it was necessary and I want to thank you, Professor Asser, for being tough but fair. I have since graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the New York Institute of Technology and have earned a Master’s of Science degree from Polytechnic University of New York University. I am also a registered Professional Engineer, after passing the Professional Exam last April. I will always feel a tremendous amount of gratitude for Queensborough because I learned a lot about myself as a student, both good and bad attributes. The good I worked to improve on, the bad I learned from, both I carry with me to this very day.” Edgar J. Zephyrine,’04, Engineering Technology

“Many of our students have to work to support themselves and their families, which can make it challenging for them to concentrate on their coursework,” said Stuart M. Asser, PE, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Engineering Technology. “Still they are strong, they do the best they can, and many of them make it.  I believe Queensborough plays a crucial role in their success.”
