Give Thanks, Give Back

Queensborough's special “Give Thanks, Give Back” Thanksgiving Food Distribution Event will be held on Wednesday, November 24 from 11:00am-1:00pm. The goods will be distributed to Queensborough students and their families who are in need.

Those attending include local elected officials who will join Queensborough President, Dr. Christine Mangino, Vice Presidents Brian Mitra and Stephen Di Dio, as well as members from Queensborough's Food Pantry Committee and other members of the College community.

“It is more important than ever to give thanks and give back, especially during these difficult times,” said President Mangino. “Food insecurity is a heartbreaking problem for far too many of our students who must work long hours to cover their living expenses while attending classes. Despite their hard work, approximately 40% of students rely on the generosity of others for their next meal.”

Holiday Farms in Bayside, Queens is generously donating perishables and non-perishables to students in need-- including fresh holiday pies, stuffing and fruit and vegetables. Grand Insurance Agency and Whitestone Auto Center have partnered to donate fresh turkeys. Local supermarkets will also participate.

“We are a community who cares deeply about the success of every student. Thanksgiving is an ideal time to give back, and we are grateful to our community partners who recognize that students cannot feed their minds on an empty stomach,” said Stephen Di Dio, Vice President. “Events such as this go a long way in supporting and inspiring them to stay on track, focus on their studies, and pursue their dreams of earning a college degree.”

Members of the Queens community who wish to support students in need can donate online now. Supporters who give $35 or more will automatically be entered to win one of three 4-packs of suite tickets to attend the NBA Nets vs. Phoenix Suns at the Barclay Center on 11/27/2021 at 7pm, valued at $700. This prize was generously donated by East West Bank.

“East West Bank is proud to support Queensborough Community College with this donation,” said Dennis Chuang, Senior Vice President and Consumer and Business Banking Regional Director at East West Bank. “We want to help ensure that every student here has the resources they need to succeed and reach further. At East West, we firmly believe that our investment in students is an investment in our communities because they will be and are the ones powering our great city and state.”
