Benefits and Requirements
Who should apply?
Students who are interested in attending graduate school, pursuing a career in academia, teaching, or conducting research are strongly encouraged to apply. The program accepts students from all disciplines in the social sciences.
What would I do?
Students participate in learning seminars that focus on developing the necessary skills to understand and participate in research. A significant component of the program is the development of a research proposal. Students deeply engage an area of interest, then develop and present their research in a larger forum. Students are also paired with a faculty mentor and may work collaboratively with the mentor in designing a project of mutual interest.
A primary goal of the program is to provide strategies and information about graduate school and academic careers. Seminars with professionals in a variety of academic fields are held throughout the program.

Am I eligible?
Do you have a:
- Serious interest in learning about the academic research process?
- Strong desire to participate in an undergraduate research experience?
- GPA 3.0 or better?
- Completed at least 2 full semesters?
- Copy of current transcript (unofficial)?
- Intent to pursue graduate studies?
- Understanding of how participating in SIRP can impact your academic and vocational goals that you can express in a short essay?
If I'm accepted, what am I required to do?
At this time, the program runs for three weeks, and participants are expected to commit to attending and completing the entire program. Attendance at all seminars is mandatory. Students are expected to engage on a project actively and to submit and present a research proposal by the end of the program.
