Course Description in college catalog:
The feminine and masculine roles in contemporary society; historical, biological, and psychological traditions; sex-role differentiation in the process of socialization. Emphasis placed on the status of women in industrial society in terms of stratifi- cation, law, politics, education, the labor force, and race; contemporary social movements.

1. Students will compare and contrast social-scientific theories of gender.
2. Students will define key concepts in the sociology of gender.
3. Students will identify current issues and controversies concerning gender.
4. Students will evaluate current issues and controversies in light of social-scientific theories of gender.
5. Students will discriminate among the social-scientific methods used to research gender.
6. Students will compare the advantages and disadvantages of the various social-scientific methods used to research gender.

Methods used to evaluate student learning will be chosen from, but not limited to, multiple-choice and essay exams, papers, and classroom participation.
