Application Checklist

1. Explore

2. Prepare

   1. It is strongly recommended that you print out the “Quick Guide to Apply for Veterans and Future Veterans”

   2. Documents Required - Send to CUNY/UAPC. Visit CUNY's Undergraduate Application page for more information

      1. Freshman:

         1. Official High School Transcript

         2. Standardized Test Scores

         3. Medical Documents for Immunizations

      2. Transfer:

         1. Official High School Transcript if less than 24 college credits were earned

3. Apply

   1. Online

      1. Create a CUNY Portal Account.

      2. Fill out the undergraduate application: Select the pay later option. When process is completed, an application control number (ten-digit number) will be generated.

   2. In-Person (Direct admission students that missed deadline to apply online): go to the campus admissions office (BRING DD-214 or military ID)

*You are a Freshman if you have a high school diploma/GED and have not previously attended any college

*You are a Transfer if you have attended high school and have prior college experience

4. After you Apply

   1. Commitment fee waiver of $100.00

      1. Complete an “Admissions Response Form/Commitment Fee Waiver” in the Office of Admissions (A-210)

      2. Provide a copy of your DD-214 or Statement of Service

   2. Turn in copy of Shot Records/Immunizations to Health Services, Medical Arts Bldg. Room MC-02

   3. Many Veterans and active duty personnel may qualify for more than one education benefits program, including the following:

      1. Montgomery G.I Bill® (MGIB, Chapter 30 and Chapter 1606)

      2. Rehabilitation and Vocation benefits (Chapter 31)

      3. Post-Vietnam Era Veterans' Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)

      4. National Guard (Chapter 32)

      5. Post-9/11 G.I Bill® (Chapter 33)

      6. Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP, Chapter 1607)

      7. Dependents (Chapter 35)

   Before making a selection, review the “Benefit Comparison Charts” to determine your best benefit and contact our office to schedule an appointment

   4. Application

   5. Review all potential areas for sources of benefits, download confirmation from showing benefits applied for.

5. Apply for Financial Aid:

   1. FASFA

   2. Tuition Assistance and Veteran Tuition Assistance (www.HESC.gov)

6. The College will send you a date to take a placement exam

   1. Bring Photo ID and arrive on-time

7. After the placement test, you will be scheduled to receive advisement and registration for your respective major in the Office of Military and Veteran's Services

   1. Provide a copy of your DD214 (military discharge papers)

   2. Provide a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility

      • Ensure all courses registered for are towards your current degree path (the VA will not pay for courses that are not in curriculum)

      • You must be registered full-time to receive full benefits (12 credits or more in the semester)

      • You can only repeat a course if it's a required course to graduate or if a better grade is required to move forward in curriculum)

8. Certify for educational benefits if applicable
