Unit V - Campus Accessibility

Queensborough Community is committed to the provision of access to all members of the campus community. The following is a list of accessible facilities.

• Administration Building- 1st and 3rd Floors (Men and Women)-Elevator
• Library- Basement, 2nd and 4th Floor (Men and Women)- Elevator
• Science Building-1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Floors (Men and Women)-Elevator
• Humanities Building- 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Floors (Men and Women)
• Medical Arts Building- Basement, 2nd, 3rd or 4th Floor (Men and Women)-Elevator
• RFK Hall (Gym Building)-Lower Mezzanine (Men and Women)-Elevator
• Student Union- Basement and Main Floor (Men and Women)
• Technology Building- 1st Floor (Men and Women)

Every location on campus that has a computer lab for student use, is equipped with at least one fully accessible workstation which includes the following:

• Height adjustable table
• Large monitor
• ZoomText software-ZoomText screen enlarging software
• Kurzweil 3000 software-Literacy reading and writing software
• JAWS screen reading software

Additional assistive technology is available and may be installed as needed in any lab or classroom. Students should make an appointment in S132 to discuss any request for accommodations.

In addition the Office of Accessibility Services maintains a fully accessible lab which is available to students for study, testing accommodations, assistive technology and tutoring (L116).

In the event of a campus emergency, students with limited mobility should wait at the designated Emergency Wait Station on each floor. These locations are marked on every floor. Security will assist students to a safe location.

• Under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) of 1993, in connection with the provision of student disability services by the Student Affairs Office, Student Affairs is an agency-based voter registration site where voter registration application forms and information are available and where students will be offered the opportunity to register to vote. If you would like information, voter registration application forms (which we can mail in for you), or voter registration assistance of any kind, please call OAS  at 718-631-6257. Voter registration information and application forms are also available at the website for the State Board of Elections of the State of New York at https://www.elections.ny.gov/VotingRegister.html.

The Office of Accessibility Services is committed to working collaboratively with students and the campus community. Every effort is made to ensure that students with disabilities are provided with the appropriated accommodations when requested. In the event that a disagreement should arise students should take the following steps:

• Arrange an appointment with the Coordinator to discuss the situation.
• If the conflict cannot be resolved, the student should then make an appointment with the Dean of Students in the Student Affairs office Room L 418, to further discuss the situation.
• If the student and the Dean are not able to come to a resolution, a meeting should be arranged with the Vice President of Student Affairs.
• If the problem still cannot be resolved and the question revolves around access and accommodation, then the student should make a formal written request to the Office of Affirmative Action to investigate the issue.
• In the event that the problem cannot be resolved after all steps have been taken, a formal complaint can be filed with the Office of Civil Rights.

The CUNY Coalition for Students with Disabilities is dedicated to providing awareness to the campus community on disability issues. The club meets weekly during club hours (Wednesdays 12:00 P.M.—2:00 P.M.).

Meetings are fun, informal and refreshments are generally served.

The club is open to students with and without disabilities.
